Top Reasons to Sell Your Stuff

Top Reasons to Sell Your Stuff

To sell, or not to sell. That is the question…

You want your stuff to go to the right home. You want to find someone who will love your stuff as much as you do. Or who will at least get more use out of it than you were able to.

But how can you make sure your old discards are going to the right home?

One of the best ways to make sure your old stuff finds the right home is to sell it.

Don’t get me wrong…not all discards need to be sold or even should be sold. It’s hard to know what should be heading to Goodwill, versus Facebook Marketplace or a consignment shop.

So, how do you know if you should sell something, or donate it?

To help you solve this “to sell, or not to sell” conundrum 🤔 for yourself, I made this quick (11-minute) video to help you know the best path for yourself and your stuff:

No time to watch the video? Here are 5 questions you can ask yourself to know if it’s better to sell or donate items when you’re organizing.

1. Do you need more free time or extra cash right now? (If you need time, donate. If you need money, sell.)

2. Which feels better for you emotionally: selling or donating your items?

3. Is the money you’ll make from selling this item worth the time and effort you’ll have to put in?

4. Will this item become a burden to someone else if you donate it or give it away?

5. Does selling this item feel like it honors its value more than donating it?

These questions will help you determine whether selling or donating will be a better fit for the items you’re working with.

There’s no right or wrong choice when it comes to selling versus donating.

What’s most important is to know what fits in with your lifestyle and values. You deserve to get organized, but also to understand (and honor) yourself a bit better as you go along.

Throw in the comments if there’s something you want to sell because it’s so meaningful to you.

So grateful you’re here!
