“I’m just so slow.”
Fiona looked defeated when she said this to me last week.
She said it apologetically, like it was something shameful or she was in trouble. Like she’d spent her whole life trying to keep up with a world that felt just out of reach.
She’s not alone.
I work with people in their 30s, 50s, even 80s who still carry the weight of that same story: You’re too slow. You’re behind. You should be further along by now.
But what if you’re not behind?
What if you’re exactly where you’re meant to be?
What if moving slowly isn’t a flaw—but a sign of depth?
Because here’s the truth: some people move fast. They skim, they sprint, they soar. And that’s beautiful.
But others move slow. Not because they’re lazy or lost, but because they’re accessing depth. They’re noticing things that others miss. They’re gathering wisdom from the quiet corners.
And that depth? It’s a gift.
In a world that’s constantly speeding up, there’s something revolutionary about slowing down.
Especially now.
We’re not in a time of 5-year plans and perfectly executed 90-day strategies.
We’re living in a moment-to-moment world. 🌎
The rules are shifting. The systems are shaking. And what we need more than ever is presence, adaptability, and compassion.
Especially for ourselves.
I was talking my bestie last night while we were both making dinner over Zoom, and she told me how her son often gets scolded for moving slowly.
But in spite of his glacial place, she is patient with him. She gets it. She knows that he has a process and she’s making time to honor that process.
I told her, “You’re doing magic by not criticizing him. Because that kind of criticism lingers. I’ve seen it live in people for a lifetime.”
So, if you’ve ever felt like you’re “too slow,” (in organizing or any other part of your life) let me offer this:
✨You’re not slow. You’re deep.
✨You move at the pace your wisdom needs.
✨You’re not behind. You’re building something that lasts.
The world needs people who think differently, move differently, feel deeply.
We need the full spectrum—sprinters and swimmers, hikers and floaters, divers and dreamers.
There is no one pace that’s “right.”
The magic is in honoring your own. ❤️
P.S.
If you’ve spent a lifetime trying to “keep up” and you’re ready to create systems that actually support how you move through the world, come join us in the Chaos To Calm Community. We make space for all paces. 💛
