The Box-a-holic Chronicles: Using your box collection to find inner peace.
Hi, I’m Star and I’m a box-a-holic. 👋🏻
Ever wonder why some of us hold onto cardboard boxes like they’re treasures? 📦
What starts out as a well-meaning stash for potential returns, quickly multiplies faster than bunnies. And often, there’s a reason for it.
For me, it’s about security. As someone with a Flight trauma response, I have this inner voice that pops up when things feel stressful. It tells me that things will be easier/better/happier if I pick up and start my life over again somewhere else.
These boxes promise an escape from any challenges I may be facing.
And even if I don’t actually want to move (or have any plans to move), just having a collection of boxes makes me feel like I’m prepared…just in case anything happens.
This isn’t logical. It’s more like a security blanket made up of Amazon boxes. And it does help my scared inner child feel a sense of security in uncertain times.
I share more about this in my new YouTube video. Take a peek:
So, how do I combat this constant pile of boxes growing in my closet? Three things…
First, I admit that this is a challenge for me.
Second, I talk to my therapist about how my trauma responses are showing up in my stuff.
And Third, I ask for organizing help. For me, that means scheduling time to virtually organize with other people and purge the boxes once a month (like we do in the Chaos to Calm Organizing Community.
It’s never something I want to do, but as long as I have someone with me, it feels a lot easier.
Does this resonate for you? Is there anything you collect that gives you a feeling of security? Hit reply and let me know.
I love hearing your experience on this because, hey, we’re all in this clutter-filled boat together, right?
Thanks for being part of this journey with me. Let’s navigate through our clutter together and find that inner peace, one box at a time.
