I have a confession to make…
I have never watched an entire organizing series. Not Marie Kondo, not the Home Edit…not even my own shows. I mean, I glance at a few episodes, but it’s hard to keep my interest after I’ve been doing it myself all day.
I know it’s crazy, but the truth is that I’m a professional organizer for my love of people, not my love of stuff.
But there’s a new show on Netflix that is blowing my mind and lighting up all my feel-good buttons.
It’s called Worn Stories. It tells the stories of unique (or totally mundane) articles of clothing and the people who wear them. And it’s glorious!
I burned through all eight 30-minute episodes like they were commercials during the Super Bowl. Every episode leaves me teary-eyed.
It’s not an organizing show, but to me, it’s so much more.
Back in 2014, when Emily Spivack first came out with her book Worn Stories, I bought it and embraced it into my book collection with gusto!
It’s a book all about articles of clothing and the stories they tell about people’s lives. And now it’s a real, live, inspiring TV show. I’m in love!
It’s like someone is finally speaking my language…
…someone who cares about the stories that our stuff tells, instead of the boxes and labels we use to try and shove them out of our minds, hearts, and spaces.
Stuff tells you people’s stories. It shows you their heart, passion, and joy. It tells the story of their pain, worries, and lost dreams. And it offers an incredible opportunity for growth. That’s what clutter has always been to me. And that’s why I do what I do.
I’m not here to try to erase years of your life. I’m here to help you integrate those years and all that wisdom into your world today, so you can live your best life possible.
It doesn’t matter to me how organized or disorganized you are. I only care about you standing strongly in the magic of who you are. And that you release anything that doesn’t lift you up—because you deserve the best, most authentic life possible.
That’s what this show reminds me. We all have a little bit of magic in the ordinary corners of our lives. It’s up to us to find it.
Check it out. I hope it adds a little sunshine to your day!
