Simple Tips for a Clutter-Free Laundry Room

Elevate Your Laundry Game: Simple Tips for a Clutter-Free Laundry Room

Laundry got you spinning? đŸŒȘ

Whether you have a laundry room or not, the laundry system in your home is a major player in the decluttering battle you’re fighting in your home.

Clothing is one of the biggest clutter creators in our day-to-day lives. It seems like clothing is always becoming a bottleneck in our household clutter.

So, how can you get a handle on your laundry clutter once and for all?

The truth is that we can’t.

Wait, what??? Now, before you throw your computer/phone/coffee in frustration, hear me out.

Laundry is never “finished” because it’s always in motion. Laundry is not a static item in our lives. It’s always in some stage of use.

And the good news is that clothing has a simple, trackable pattern.

There’s a cycle to laundry.

It might be hanging up waiting for you to choose it, being worn, in the dirty clothes hamper, piled on the treadmill to be worn again later,
being washed, being dried, being folded, or in the laundry hamper waiting to be put away.

And unless you’re doing your laundry naked, you’re never going to have all your clothes in the same place in the Laundry Cycle(and even that would be short-lived).

The clothing in our lives is always in motion. And all the items are on their trajectory. There is no done in the world of laundry. You’re always somewhere in the cycle.

Cut yourself some slack and stop trying to solve laundry forever. Instead, ask yourself where you’re getting stuck in the system.

Do you forget things in the dryer until they’ve grown enough spores to be considered dependent on your taxes? Do you fold things but never take them out of the laundry basket?

you know that, now you can come up with some strategies for addressing the black hole of your laundry cycle.

For example, I hate folding clothes (ironic, I know, that I now teach people how to fold their clothes in an organized way). If I take things out of the dryer, it might be days or a week before I fold them. They’ll sit there on the couch until I’m expecting company and need the sitting space.

Not exactly the dream laundry system.

Wherever you get stuck in your laundry room cycle, there is hope. Decoding where you get stuck is the first step in reclaiming the laundry clutter in your life.
