I’ve seen it a thousand times…
You’re ready to get organized. You’re done living in chaos. You’re done shuffling things from one room to the other. You resolve that this time is going to be THE TIME!
You clear your weekend, walk into the clutter zone, and….
You come to 36 hours later. Did you organize? Nope! Did you binge all three seasons of the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and drink your weight in wine? Yup. Ugh!
Why does this keep happening? Overwhelm! Overwhelm is the #1 reason people don’t start organizing. It’s easy to go into full “shutdown mode” when you feel overwhelmed and don’t know how you’re going to get it all done.
Thankfully, there are 2 things you can do to stop overwhelm in its tracks:
1-Organize Small Zones: Don’t overwhelm yourself by taking on giant projects. Instead, pick a small, manageable section of the clutter. You don’t have to organize an entire room all at once. You can organize an entire room tiny bite by tiny bite. First a drawer, then a bag, then a box, then a counter…then clutter domination! Muahahaha!
2-Organize the Easiest Thing First: Yes, you heard me right. Don’t try to prove what an organizing bad a*^ you are. Start with the easiest thing first. This builds your confidence and gets you into the organizing zone. This alone is probably the most helpful thing you can do.
So take a look at that clutter you keep avoiding. What is one small, easy section you can focus on first?
