I recently contributed to a Redfin Blog called The Ultimate Room-By-Room Decluttering Checklist.
I shared that the secret to whole home organizing success is something unexpected…
Organizing success isn’t fueled by what we do during the organizing session. It’s something we do BEFORE we even start to organize.
When it comes to whole-home organizing, INTENTION is everything.
And setting an intention for each room of your home before you start to organize will make the difference between completing your organizing projects, and feeling like you’re stuck on the hamster wheel…again.
Here are a few things that setting an intention will give you:
- clarity about what to keep and what to let go of
- direction for what you’re building so you can visualize the path more easily
- a plan for what is needed in the space (instead of letting the clutter dictate your path)
- decor inspiration
- excitement for what you’ll soon be experiencing in your spaces (it’s like a living mood board)
So, how do you set an intention when you’re organizing? Simply answer these questions for each of the rooms in your home:
- What activities will you do in this room?
- How do you want this space to feel? or What do you want to experience when you’re in this room? (if you’re not a feelings person)
- How do you want this space to look?
Armed with these three questions, you’re ready to start tackling the organizing projects in your home!
It is amazing how much more inspired we feel when we know what we’re creating in our homes through the process of organizing. Instead of looking at the clutter & feeling overwhelmed, the whole process becomes so much more creative.
You’re building a home and life you love. These three questions will give you the roadmap there.
Who knew the first step of organizing had nothing to do with organizing?
