How Puzzles Improve Your Organizing Skills

How Puzzles Improve Your Organizing Skills (an unexpected strategy)

The minute the weather starts cooling off, I head indoors and do one of my favorite winter pastimes…jigsaw puzzles. 🧩

Nerd alert! 🤓I know. I just love huddling over the coffee table working on a good puzzle in the winter.

This weekend, I was working on a puzzle with my family, and it hit me—puzzles aren’t just a fun way to pass the time; they’re a fantastic training ground for organizing skills!

Puzzles are like cross-training for organizing! 💪🏻

As I was sorting the pieces into categories—edges, colors, and more—I noticed how this process mirrors the very techniques I use to help people get organized.

Puzzles are a playful way to practice sorting and categorizing, which are crucial for managing clutter. They also help you develop focus and endurance…not to mention they give you a nice little dopamine hit. 😀

Here’s a quick video I made about how your puzzle time will actually help strengthen your organizing skills:

No time to watch the video? No problem! Here are a few benefits that puzzles will do for your organizing skills:

  • Category Clarity: Doing puzzles helps strengthen your ability to create categories and organize small things (the most annoying type of “stuff” to organize).
  • Dopamine Hit: You’ll get infinite hits of dopamine as you find “homes” for each individual piece of puzzle chaos.
  • Patience & Focus: Enjoy a nice, healthy dose of focus as you dial into the puzzle’s nuances.
  • Transformation Magic: Experience the magical power of completion as you transform the puzzle from chaos to a beautiful, completed piece of art.

Puzzles are amazing because it feels like you’re playing a game, but we’re really reinforcing the skills that help you get organize.

Not a bad way to spend the winter! ❄️
