Closing the Knowledge Gap: How a Little Research Can Help You Break Through Your Clutter Struggles
Rose stared at the pile of framed art leaning against her bedroom wall.
She was so tired of looking at them. Plus, it was a total clutter catch. As long as they were there, clutter piled up all around them…like a little clutter trap.
Plus, she felt ashamed for having them.
She had been staring at that pile for years. But she had no idea how to get them hung. They were heavy and the last time she tried to hang them…well, let’s just say it did NOT go well.
And she was too embarrassed to have someone come into her house to hang them, for fear of them seeing (and judging) her clutter.
She felt stuck, wanted to hang them. And wanted to eliminate that little clutter trap in her bedroom. But when she thought about actually doing it, she felt overwhelmed.
This gap in knowledge is what often holds us back from getting organize.
Many times, it’s not that we can’t get organize or that we don’t know how. Frequently, the bigger issue is that there’s a gap in our knowledge base that’s stopping us from moving forward.
Maybe, like Rose, you’re struggling with a DIY project. Or perhaps you want to make sure your old batteries are properly disposed of but don’t know how to do that in your city. Or, you might need to research if the China your grandmother left to you is actually valuable or not, so you can decide if you want to donate or sell it.
Often times these overwhelming hurdles are much easier than we think they are. We just need a little time (and research) to figure them out.
Is there something that’s stopping you from moving forward with your organizing projects?
Can you take 20 minutes today (right now even), to research some possible solutions? 20 minutes doesn’t sound like much, but often that’s long enough to either find answers or move beyond the overwhelm that’s been keeping you stuck.
