Bathroom Organization Made Easy

Bathroom Organization Made Easy: How to Declutter and Simplify Your Space

As I pack for my upcoming move, I’m paying attention to which rooms are the easiest to pack (link to our recent moving blog), and which are the most challenging.

I didn’t expect it, but the bathroom has been one of the most challenging rooms for me to organize and pack up.

It’s filled with so many “someday” items I’ve been holding onto because I WANT to use them, but never quite find the time to actually do.

For example…I have a giant collection of salt for baths (I never take), travel toiletries (I never use…I like my daily-use stuff more), and lipsticks that aren’t quite right (but aren’t that wrong, either).

I don’t want to pack things I never use, but I also feel really uncomfortable when I think about getting rid of them without using them.  You know the ones…guilt, shame, overwhelm, frustration, regret.

I would love to use these items, but how many baths, face masks, and manicures can a girl do just weeks before moving??? 💅🏻

I call these items ASPIRATIONAL clutter.  These are items that we have every desire, intention, and goal to use…but never do.  And these items aren’t bathroom-specific.  So many cluttered items are actually aspirational.

So, what can we do about it?  I created this short (7-minute) video for you with some of my best bathroom organizing + aspirational clutter tips.

No time to watch the video?  Here are a couple of my favorite tips:

Re-Home – If you have items that you really want to use but don’t use where they are now, relocate them to a place where you may have a better chance of using them.  For example, lipstick in the bathroom doesn’t help me because I only wear lipstick when I’m teaching classes online.  Putting them in my office was a huge game-changer for me.

Reflect and Release – Pick one aspirational item you’ve been struggling with (face masks, lipsticks, etc.).  Gather up that one category of aspirational items, put them together, and really look at them. Take 10 minutes to journal about why you collect them. What is it helping you do?  What do you think it will give you?  Be super honest with yourself.

Once we can spot the ways that aspirational clutter lives in our home, it’s so much easier to make different choices for what we give our time, space, and energy to.

A little insight goes a long way when it comes to our aspirational clutter.
