Yesterday, I was helping a client organize their bedroom.

As we walked into the room, they felt overwhelmed almost immediately. There was a lot to do, the energy felt heavy, and about 20 minutes in they said:

“Maybe this is too much. Maybe we should switch to an easier project.”

They were feeling overwhelmed and getting ready to abandon the bedroom project altogether.

So, I asked them to pause.

Not because they needed to push harder or do more. But because the bedroom is one of the most important spaces in the house to approach gently.

The bedroom is where we sleep. Where we let our guard down. Where our nervous system is supposed to feel safe enough to rest.

And because of that, it can be a surprisingly charged space…

There can be relationship energy activated here. Or body image issues connected to our clothing may arise. We can experience sleep struggles.

And often, we’re reading, scrolling, unwinding, or overstimulating ourselves without realizing it.

So, when people tell me they want to “organize their bedroom,” I often slow them down.

Because sometimes the goal of organizing isn’t to do a full, deep, color-coded overhaul. Sometimes the goal is much simpler.

Sometimes the goal is to protect your peace.

Right now, the world is loud. It’s heavy, fast, and overwhelming. Many people are carrying way more than they realize, and it shows up most clearly at night.

If your bedroom doesn’t feel peaceful, you don’t need to “Marie Kondo” the entire space.

You just might need to remove one thing.

Something that doesn’t feel right. One thing that disturbs your sleep. Or something that pulls your focus in a direction you don’t want it to go.

That could look like:

It’s the time of year when time feels a little fuzzy, the decorations are still up, and half of us can’t remember what day it is.

Before you curl up and hibernate until January, I have a tiny (but mighty) task for you:

Do your returns this week. 🛍️

I know…this is not the most exciting advice you’ll get all week. But trust me, Future You will thank you.

A client of mine recently told me about a pile of things sitting by her door—clothes she wanted to try on, gifts she meant to return—all patiently waiting during her holiday travel and family visits.

By the time she finally got around to them, the return window had closed. She lost hundreds of dollars in unused, unwanted items.

And I get it. We all have that pile. It’s the “I’ll get to it later” corner that stares at us every time we walk by. But those unreturned things don’t just sit there quietly.

They drain our money, take up space, and create one more lingering task—figuring out who to give them to or where to donate them later.

It’s clutter, but with a side of guilt and lost energy.

So, this week, grab your receipts, load up your car (or your tote bag), and take a quick trip to UPS, the mall, or wherever your returns belong.

The stores are calmer, the lines are shorter, and you’ll walk out feeling lighter—emotionally and financially.

Let’s start the new year with clear space, calm minds, and closed loops. No lingering “I still need to…” energy.

Comment below and tell me…

What will you return today?

Wishing you an amazing (and organized) year ahead.

Black Friday is almost here, and if your inbox looks anything like mine, it’s full of “once-in-a-lifetime” deals.

But before you click add to cart, I want to offer another voice. A quieter one.

Since 2020, I’ve moved seven times. Seven.

And every single time, I’ve had to touch, pack, and carry every item I own.

And let me tell you…it’s humbling.

I’ve seen just how many things I bought with good intentions that I barely used, didn’t love, or never even opened.

Each move was a reminder that most of what we buy doesn’t end up changing our lives. It just fills our closets, our shelves, and our mental space.

So, this week, while the world is shouting “More! More! More!” I want to whisper something different:

🖤 You don’t have to buy a thing.

🖤 You don’t have to chase every deal.

🖤 You don’t have to prove your love or success through stuff.

There will always be another sale. But your peace of mind (and your space) is worth far more than anything in a shopping cart.

So if you need permission to sit this one out, here it is.

Let’s talk about a major block in getting organized.

You know when you’re organizing something…and it’s almost perfect. But then there’s one tiny detail that makes your eye twitch every time you look at it?

And it makes the whole space feel chaotic, and you find yourself avoiding that room at all costs…and then clutter starts to mysteriously build up again?

I call that frustrating challenge The Imperfection.

For Shawna, The Imperfection was a giant cat box. She had a huge utility closet in her mudroom. It was the best and most functional storage space in her house. And (thankfully) there was a plug in there, so the cat box being stored there felt like a perfect win…

Privacy for the cat ✅

Out of sight ✅

No smell ✅

Now, don’t get me wrong—this solution worked…

Except for the fact that the closet door had to stay open six inches at all times so the cat could get in and out.

And this closet was the first thing you saw when you walked into the house. And it wasn’t a cute closet, either—it was a functional utility space with mismatched boxes and random gear.

Shawna was frustrated. “It ruins everything,” she said. “If I see clutter, I create clutter. It snowballs.”

This is what I call THE IMPERFECTION.

It’s that one element that isn’t ideal and feels like it ruins the rest of the system.

That thing that whispers “Why even bother?”

The Imperfection doesn’t mean your systems are broken or unfinished. It means they’re still evolving.

Sometimes things are less than ideal. Sometimes we can’t make our homes bigger, get our doors to close all the way, or decorate the way we want to.

And inside, our inner teenager may want to fight back and rebel. But done is better than perfect.

Instead of fighting The Imperfection and feeling like getting organized is a lost cause, sometimes the best first step is acceptance. Accept that The Imperfection exists, and we need to work with it.

Then dive into possible solutions.

For Shawna’s closet, we doubled down and brainstormed solutions:

Could we remove the closet doors and use curtains instead?

Paint the closet interior a fun color?

Style the left side (the side you see) to look intentional and beautiful? And then stash the messier stuff on the right, out of view?

Once Shawna accepted that THE IMPERFECTION wasn’t going away, everything shifted. She was able to pick a direction and give it a try.

She didn’t have to move the cat box—she just had to change how she saw the space. And with that, her overwhelm lifted. She made peace, and she moved forward.

The truth is that she may change the configuration of that closet a dozen times while she lives in that house. Each version is valid. And each will get better and better.

So, here’s your invitation:

What’s one IMPERFECTION in your home that’s tripping you up?

Let’s look at it together. Comment below and tell me what it is—I’ll help you brainstorm how to turn it into a win.

Beth didn’t think organizing her linen closet would change her life. Honestly, neither did I.

She had been in the Chaos to Calm Community for awhile now. She was showing up on calls, doing the work…but no matter how much she did, she still felt stuck.

Like a lot of people, she wanted to dive into biggest, hardest clutter in her life first—the paperwork backlog, her digital files, and the emotionally-charged stuff that made her want to scream and go hide under the covers.

And that totally make sense.

When clutter is causing stress, we often zero in on the most overwhelming thing and think, “That’s the real problem! If I fix that first, everything else will fall into place.”

But the truth is that’s actually the last place to start.

When you’re burned out, stuck, or struggling, starting with your hardest clutter can leave you more frazzled, more discouraged, and more convinced that you’re just “bad at organizing” (which is 100% never true).

One month, we were focusing on organizing the Linen Closet in C2C. Beth initially said she didn’t want to do it because it wasn’t one of her problem zones.

I told her that these basic “easy” spaces are some of the most important rooms to organize.

Not because it’s glamorous. Not because it’s trendy. But because it’s a low-stakes space with zero emotional drama.

So, she jumped in and organized her Linen Closet for a few hours.

And something shifted in Beth.

There was no shame in there. No grief. No “what if I need this someday” spiral. Just sheets, towels, blankets, and a couple of extra pillow cases.

She folded. She sorted. She made decisions.

And it lit her up! 🔥

You could see it on her face. This was the first time that organizing felt empowering, instead of defeating.

That one tiny win cracked the door open. And then she kept going.

She organized her junk drawer. And then the kitchen cabinet. Then she unpacked the boxes in her garage from her last move.

This is what I call “Gateway Clutter.”

It’s the clutter that doesn’t fight back. The easy stuff. The neutral stuff. The stuff that feels like a quick and easy win.

It doesn’t have to be a linen closet. It could be:

Your junk drawer

The door of your fridge

A spice rack

Your sock drawer

The glove compartment in your car

What matters is not where it is. What matters is how it feels.

If doesn’t feel heavy, complicated, or emotionally loaded…that’s your gateway clutter.

Because when you’re stuck, you don’t need to tackle your hardest clutter in order to “earn” getting organized.

You just need a win. 🏆

It helps you remember who you are and what you’re capable of.

What’s your gateway clutter? What space could you work on this week that won’t make you want to cry, scream, or binge scroll?

Comment below and tell me one simple win you could give yourself—just to get started.

Because this is where your power lives.

Not in pushing harder. Not in shaming yourself. Not in waiting until your whole life is “figured out.”

But in taking action today, that leaves you feeling like the powerful, incredible being you are.

You’ve got this, and I’ve got you.

Staring at an endless to-do list, knowing in our bones that there’s no way to finish it all.

I was working with a client who was essentially doing the job of three people at a nonprofit. No matter how efficient we made her systems, there was simply too much on her plate.

She wasn’t failing, she was being asked to fit the ocean into a bucket. 🌊

And I see this everywhere right now. County workers, corporate employees, small business owners, even parents at home—all running understaffed, under supported, and overwhelmed.

The truth is, no amount of color-coding or calendar hacks can make the impossible possible.

But here’s what does help…planning.

It seems simple, but we need to take time each day to decide what we are going to spend our time and focus on before we launch into action.

Unfortunately, most people feel so overloaded that they want to just launch into action the minute they see anything urgent or important.

But, unfortunately, you can’t do and plan at the same time.

When you’re in “doing” mode, your energy is focused on output. When you’re “planning” mode, your energy is focused on perspective, resources, and strategy.

Trying to combine them means you’ll always feel behind and overwhelmed.

If you don’t take time to plan, the outside world will dictate your focus. Your email, boss, coworkers, or even your family will happily decide your priorities for you.

But they’ll be prioritizing their needs—not necessarily what matters most to you.

This is true at work, at home, and especially in stressful times. Right now, so many of us are stretched thin. There’s more to do than time to do it.

But you’re the only one who knows the real limits of your time, energy, and capacity.

So, here’s what I want you to do:

Pause. Take a breath,

Check in with yourself: how much energy do you really have today?

Set a timer for 10 minutes. Use that time to decide what’s most important to focus on today. Write it down.

Jump in and get started.

When I get stressed out, my bestie always reminds me, “There’s always going to be more to do than time to do it.”

If that’s true (and it is), then let’s stop pretending we’ll “get it all done.” We won’t. And that’s okay.

What matters is choosing wisely. Your time, energy, and attention are sacred.

We can’t do it all, but we can choose to do what’s important or necessary for us today.

So, What’s the one thing you want to focus on today?

Comment below and let me know. I’d love to cheer you on

There’s something about the last box.

When I’m helping a client organize their paperwork, it’s easy to see progress. We fly through stacks and piles with ease. Systems are clicking, confidence is building, wins are rolling in.

But when it comes to facing the last box of paperwork…that’s when the fight shows up.

Agitation. Spiraling. The sudden urge to do anything but handle it.

This happened last week with one of my clients, Yasmina.

She’s made amazing progress with her paperwork. But last week was the final round of paperwork…her very last box of clutter to confront.

And Yasmina wanted to do anything but go near it.

Suddenly, she was offering to go get us coffee, asking if I was hungry, telling me it was probably all junk anyway, and it wasn’t worth our time.

But I know this dance. The final box isn’t scary because it’s messy. It’s scary because it’s vulnerable.

There’s something hiding in there that you don’t want to face. It’s been pushed to the end for a reason.

We’ve looked at this box before (many times, actually), but each time she’d say, “I’ll do this one on my own.”

But what she really meant was “I can’t bear to look at this.”

What was in the box? Uncashed checks. Financial opportunities that had been missed, lost, or delayed due to years of clutter and chaos.

And with that came shame. So. Much. Shame.

The kind that feels like it’ll swallow you whole if someone else sees it.

But this time, something was different. This time, Yasmina stayed.

We confronted the box together. She was still uncomfortable (that’s totally normal), but she was ready.

After years of building trust and safety (both with me, and herself), she finally felt ready to face it.

And here’s the beautiful part…

Because of all the work she’s done, most of the checks were still able to be cashed.

She had the clarity and systems to get them reissued, follow up, and actually receive the abundance that had once slipped through the cracks.

That day, she walked away with clarity, empowerment, and literal income.

She made money by organizing that last box.

But more importantly, she healed a pattern of feeling shame around her paper clutter and learned she could trust herself.

After leaving her house, I was thinking about the three big takeaways from that moment:

1. Anticipation is worse than the reality.
Your brain has told you that it’s going to be a horrible experience. And that the clutter is filled with dread, failure, and missed opportunity. But 99% of the time, the actual process of going through it is easier and more healing than you can imagine.

2. There are treasures in your chaos.
Sometimes it’s money. Sometimes it’s room to breathe. Sometimes it’s finally feeling safe enough to be seen in your mess. Those are treasures too.

3. You won’t always be ready the first time.
Or the second. Or the tenth. That doesn’t mean you’ve failed. That means you’re human. Healing takes time. Organizing takes trust. And readiness has its own rhythm. No one (not even me) can rush that for you.

Your clutter doesn’t mean you’re broken. And you’re not “bad at this” because you’ve circled around the same pile more than once.

This is your process. And it deserves patience, grace, and support.

If you’re staring down a scary box of your own clutter…you’re not alone. And there’s no shame in needing help to face it.

Comment below and tell me…

What’s the box/drawer/closet/room you’ve been avoiding? Let’s name it…and maybe even begin to open it together.

When I first met Sarah, she stood in the middle of her home office surrounded by piles of paper, half-finished projects, and unopened mail.

She sighed and said, “I’ve tried every organizing system. Bins, labels, apps, spreadsheets…nothing sticks. I think I’m just broken.”

But as we talked, something clicked.

I noticed how her face lit up when she described her job as a financial analyst the way she broke down complex problems into clear data points, tracked patterns, and loved a good ROI.

So, instead of talking about color-coded bins or Marie Kondo-ing her entire life, we tried something different…

We built her organizing system around her superpower numbers.

Suddenly, she could see the value of letting go of outdated paperwork:
“How many hours per week will this save me?”
“How much stress will this reduce? ”
“That’s the ROI of hiring help versus doing it myself?”

The moment we aligned her organizing with her natural strengths, everything shifted.

Your Superpower Is the Key 🔑

We all have a superpower.
Something that wakes up our brains.
That lights up our eyes.

That makes hard things a little bit easier because it makes sense to us.

And when it comes to organizing?

That superpower is your secret key. Because organizing isn’t one-size-fits-all.

It’s not about being Pinterest-perfect or finding the “right” system everyone else swears by.

It’s about tapping into your unique way of thinking, seeing, and moving through the world and using that as your roadmap.

Clutter Isn’t the Problem. It’s the Messenger. 💬

Clutter isn’t here to shame you. It’s here to teach you.

When your clutter gets loud, it’s often pointing to something deeper:
A hidden strength
A missing motivator
A buried value

Once we listen, everything changes.

Superpowers in Action ✨

The Artist 👩‍🎨

Maya hated filing cabinets, but lit up when we talked about colors and textures.

So, we designed a system around beauty inspiring bins, curated palettes, and mood boards that made organizing feel creative.

Her whole systems came alive.

The Giver 🎁 (this one’s me!)

I can’t stand wasting the extra water from my reverse osmosis filter.

So, I bought a lemon tree and a kumquat tree for my patio. Now I water them every day, rather than wasting the RO water.

That small act of service fills me up.

To me, wasted water felt like clutter. Now, it feels like love.

The Data-Driven Mind 📊

Max needed spreadsheets to make decisions about what to keep and what to let go of.

When we crunched the numbers, his entire relationship with “stuff” shifted.

It stopped feeling emotional and started feeling clear.

The Paper Whisperer 📂

Yvonne manages complex estate and legal paperwork like a pro.

Paper was really her superpower, but she felt pressured to “go digital.”

Instead, we doubled down on her natural strength creating an intuitive paper systems where her genius thrives.

Start With What Lights You Up 💡

Your superpower is the clue you’ve been looking for.

Maybe it’s:

Creativity 🎨

Logic 🧠

Movement 🏃

Teaching 👩‍🏫

Beauty 💅

Service 🤝

Or maybe it’s something you’ve dismissed because it doesn’t look like “typical organizing.”

But here’s the thing: that’s exactly where we start.

Getting organized isn’t about becoming someone you’re not.

It’s about learning how you work best and building systems that honor that.

When you follow your superpower, organizing stops being a battle…and starts becoming a homecoming.

Your unique genius is already here. Let’s build around it.

A few weeks ago, I was organizing paperwork with my client, Faith. She had stacks of paper covering her kitchen table, her home office, and most of her dining room.

She is an amazing person. Sharp, organized, and a total badass in many parts of her life, and yet completely buried in paperwork at home.

Every time she sat down to tackle the piles, her brain went into total overwhelm.

Bills were mixed with birthday cards. Medical reports buried under vacation plans. Dreams tangled up with to-do lists.

She told me, “It feels like everything’s yelling at me all at once. I don’t even know where to start.”

Her problem wasn’t too much paper. It was not knowing what belonged where.

Create Homes, Not Piles: The Secret to Ending Document Overwhelm

When it comes to paperwork, most chaos isn’t about how much you have, it’s about where it all lives…

…and whether or not you can find what you need, when you need it.

We tend to lump everything together into one box, one pile, or one “I’ll deal with it later” stack. And when we do that, overwhelm starts to build.

Because when everything feels equally important, nothing really is.

The answer isn’t always saving less.

The secret is giving your documents clear, separate homes. Places where every single piece of paper has a home and a job.

Here are the five homes that will make the difference in your paper organizing:

📥 Inbox → For anything incoming you haven’t processed yet.
✍ Action → For things you need to do: active projects, bills, forms, and general tasks.
⏳ Waiting For → This is for anything you’ve delegated or are waiting on someone else to handle. (Borrowed from productivity expert David Allen)
🔎 Reference → Important information you’ll want to keep handy, but that doesn’t require action. (Manuals, medical records, or key contacts.)
💡 Inspiration → Your ideas, dreams, and someday projects that deserve a home of their own.

When your documents live in clear categories, your brain no longer has to waste energy wondering: “What is this, and what do I do with it?”

Freedom Comes from Clarity.

Once we set these homes up for Faith’s documents, the transformation was instant. she could grab a paper, glance at it, and know exactly where it belonged.

No more piles on the kitchen table. No more “I’ll deal with it later” guilt.

She told me, “I feel like I just got hours of my life back. It’s like my brain finally has space to think.”

And that’s the point. When your paperwork has a home, your energy can stay where it belongs…on what matters most right now.

What pile of paper is asking for your attention today? Hit reply and tell me about it. I would love to support you as you work on your paper piles.

Here’s to fewer piles, more peace, and a home where every paper knows where it belongs. 🥂

Let’s talk about something that turns heads…

Swearing. 🤬

My book is called Why the F#@ Am I Still Not Organized? And one of my keynotes is called Empowered Productivity: Get Your Sh*t Together.

And yes, I cuss…sometimes.

Not to be edgy. Not to be shocking. And definitely not to be crass.

I use strong language when I want to match the emotional charge of the moment.

Because when you’re drowning in clutter, overwhelmed and ashamed, you’re not thinking, “Gosh, I seem a bit disorganized.”

You’re exhausted, burned out, stressed out and probably thinking some version of “Why the F*#@ can’t I get it together?”

And if that’s what you’re actually feeling, why would I sugarcoat it?

I grew up around cowboys. 🏜️And let me tell you, they’re poets when it comes to swearing. So, I never learned to fear cussing.

To me, it’s just another way to tell the truth…emotional, raw, and real.

And the truth is people judge swearing the same way they judge clutter.

As if it says something about your character.
Or makes you less worthy.
Or like it means you’ve failed.

It doesn’t.

Having clutter doesn’t make you a bad person. It makes you human.

And if a little cussing helps us tell the truth about the shame, the overwhelm, the “what’s wrong with me” spiral that clutter brings? Then I’ll use it.

Because this isn’t about swearing, it’s about setting ourselves free.

And clutter? It’s just the doorway.
